Love or Leave? The 12 Surprising Jobs Women Say Are Instant Red Flags!

Sarah White

While finding a suitable partner isn’t all about the money aspect of things, it still takes up quite a huge chunk, so it’s not surprising that many guys get their hearts broken when they disclose what they do to potential suitors. So before you go ahead to talk to that person who’s been catching your eye, here are some occupations that women consider to be deal breakers:

Professional Gambler

To be honest, you really can’t blame any woman for not wanting to be with someone who professes that he’s a professional gambler. After all, who wants to live a life of financial instability and upheavals? The thrill and allure of gambling may initially seem exciting, but the prospect of dealing with the associated financial and emotional rollercoasters is undoubtedly a huge turnoff. Gambling is not the kind of profession you’ll ascribe to a healthy, lasting marriage, so why even bother?

Social Media Influencer

Although social media influencing is not necessarily a bad thing, for some women, it’s a major deal breaker. This is primarily because an influencer’s work is never quite done, and at all hours of the day, they’ll likely keep taking calls and attending to clients. This makes women feel like the job is always going to come first for the man and not her. There’s also the fact that many women just don’t fancy the public lifestyle they’ll be forced to live.

Bounty Hunters

Hearing that someone you love is a bounty hunter could first fill you with pride and intrigue; however, this fades away really fast. Because of the nature of their job, bounty hunters often have to lead very dangerous lives, traveling far distances to hunt down their targets. For women, this translates into spending a lot of time worrying about the safety and health of their loved ones.

Law Enforcement

Just like being a bounty hunter, law enforcement is also a very high-risk occupation. For some women, finding out that you’re a police officer makes them respect you for your service. However, for most others, it’s pretty much the end of whatever spark was threatening to come alive within them. The reason for this is simple, too: nobody wants to have to live in constant fear for the lives of their loved ones. There’s also the very real risk of exposure to criminal elements that could threaten the safety of the entire family, especially if the other person is a law enforcement agent who frequently takes part in high-profile cases.

Nightclub Promoter

If you go clubbing a lot, then you’ll have certainly met lots of really cute nightclub promoters. However, the fact is very few women would even play around with the idea of starting something serious with someone who works as a nightclub promoter. Women might worry about the temptations and the unpredictability that come with this line of work. The late nights, frequent socializing with a party-centric crowd, and the general atmosphere of nightlife can be perceived as barriers to developing a stable, trusting relationship.

Bartender

Most women see having a relationship with a bartender as cool if you’re not looking for something too serious but a serious red flag if otherwise. Here’s why: Do you know how many women a bartender comes in contact with every day? No one has a specific number, but the general agreement is it’s a lot. Since long-term relationships are built on trust, most women would rather not bother fretting over if their partner is cheating on them.

Professional Gamer

At first glance, dating a professional gamer seems like the jackpot; after all, you really never have to worry about where he’ll be or him cheating and all that. However, for most women they simply are not ready to start competing with a computer screen for the attention they deserve. The truth is professional gamers spend a lot of time perfecting their craft, and at some point, women are left feeling like the third wheel in the unlikely relationship scenario.

Politician

If you’re not aware already, you should know that politics is one profession that puts a huge amount of strain on romantic relationships. There are the constant, demanding schedules, public scrutiny, and occasional security threat events that make people with this profession “distasteful” to most women. And as if that’s not enough, politicians also have a reputation for being liars and cheats. Few women want to live out the rest of their lives having to deal with this stigma.

Truck Drivers

Truck driving is no easy job; we all know that by now. However, what really turns women off from truck driver suitors is the fact that there’s a high possibility of infidelity. In fact, lists of truck drivers have second families in cities where they frequent to make deliveries or pick up products. There’s also the fact that it’s a dangerous job that usually requires them to be away from home for long periods at a stretch.

Surgeons

Most women believe that surgeons have something of a “god complex,” and as such, they are usually too proud to make building a relationship with them worthwhile. Aside from this, there’s also the unavailability side of things that makes dating a surgeon impractical for most women.

Debt Collectors

If all people stuck to loan agreements and paid their debts when due, there would be no need for debt collectors; however, they don’t, so there is. Because of this refusal, debt collectors often have to resort to less savory methods of getting people to pay up. Unfortunately, this has pretty much ensured that there’s massive bad PR around that occupation.

Life Coaches

This might be a somewhat surprising addition to this kit, but many women are actually of the opinion that they can’t date a life coach. This all comes down to the fact that they don’t want to feel like their lives are under constant evaluation or judgment by their partner.
