Although some would call this ageism, boomers feel some life lessons can’t be taught to people; they have to experience it to fully grasp their meaning.

For a generation that didn’t grow with the type of technology we now have, Boomers find it strange that Gen Zs are always on their phone. And for Gen Zs, being on the phone doesn’t equal unproductivity. Gen Zs would rather they be left alone.

Why Are You Always Changing Jobs

Boomers are from a generation where loyalty was key in the employer-employee relationship. But Gen Zs aren’t built that way. Gen Zs believe growth is personal, and if a company doesn’t offer what they want per time, they leave. They are not working to build retirement savings, they’re working to learn and explore.

You Need to Save More Money

Gen Zs don’t believe in saving. They believe in investing and living life to its fullest in the moment. Boomers, on the other hand, trained and thrived in the booming industrial sector, believe savings will save you in the future.

You Should Have More Respect for Authority

Some might perceive Gen Zs are disrespectful, especially Boomers. But Gen Zs believe respect should be earned and not given like candy. Gen Zs only respect authority to the extent the authority respects itself around gen Z.

Gen Zs believe that renting is a wiser economic strategy than buying. Boomers want to buy houses because they believed their house was an asset. Gen Z believes owning a house is a liability.

We Never Had It This Easy

Boomers believe Gen Zs have been offered an easy launch pad, that the times are softer and the opportunities more vast than their time. Gen Zs don’t like this statement because Boomers fail to realise that every generation has its struggles. And because the struggle of the past isn’t today’s struggle doesn’t mean the present struggle is easier.

Why Do You Need So Much Therapy

Boomers don’t understand the surging numbers of people in need of a therapist. Boomers were trained to be hard by life, so they find the constant need for a therapist weak. Many baby boomers don’t truly believe in mental health, especially for men.

We Never Had Problems Finding a Job

Boomers, most times, use these words to directly or indirectly shame the graduate who hasn’t gotten an interview request in four years despite being an intelligent person. Gen Zs understand the current reality, and find the statement distasteful because it leaves the burden of finding a job solely on the shoulders of the Gen Zs. The economy is bad, and Jobs are scarce.

While boomers took pride in their jobs, they also believed in ‘grinding’ till the end. Gen Zs don’t believe in working extremely hard just to survive; excessive hard work, the industrial-style hard work boomers are used to, doesn’t cut it with Gen Zs. productivity over busyness!

Gen Zs are that generation that want to experience everything life has to offer, and don’t believe in sticking with one job.
