12 Stupid and Unhealthy Foods Americans Should Never Eat

Mo Parker

Obesity is rising alarmingly, heart issues are becoming more and more common among the American populace, and the common factor tying it all together is unhealthy eating. America contains lots of pretty great food options, but here are 12 unhealthy ones you should definitely avoid eating to keep your health in optimal condition:

Soda

Pop! Fizzz! Yeah, that’s the sound of a soda can popping or the sound of heart issues just waiting and raring to go. You will no doubt have heard people repeatedly say that soda isn’t good for your health, and that is absolutely true.

According to the American Heart Society, you shouldn’t take more than 36 grams of added sugar in a day if you want to maintain a healthy heart. Do you know how much added sugar is in a can of soda? 40! To make things even worse, soda also contains high-fructose corn syrup, a sugar type known to play a role in causing diabetes and heart disease.

Processed Meat

Processed meat is, without a doubt, an American food staple. There’s hardly any food you want to buy that doesn’t contain some amount of processed meat. However, you should know that these food items actually do more harm than good to the body.

Processed meats like sausages and deli meats contain high levels of preservatives, sodium, and saturated fats, all items that have been linked to high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases.

Fast Food

When it was first introduced, fast food seemed like an answer to prayers, especially for low-income Americans and those who simply didn’t have the time for properly cooked traditional meals. However, fast food is actually dangerous, and it has single-handedly spiked obesity occurrences in the U.S.
Nutritionally, all you get from fast foods are high calories and low nutrients. As such, people who consume this food regularly or exclusively often end up with some nutrient deficiency of some kind. Meanwhile, sodium and fat levels rise rapidly.

Instant Noodles

Instant noodles are a consumer favorite both in America and countries all over the world. If you think about it, this isn’t really surprising too; after all, what’s not to love? They taste great, cook fast, and are very uncomplicated. However, the hidden danger here is they can also cause hypertension when you take them too much since they contain a lot of salt. Also, despite how they look, they are deficient in nutrients.

Juice

There’s nothing wrong with a glass of juice or two to start your day. However, when you hear “cocktail,” then that’s one drink you definitely don’t want to take. This is because cocktails contain a mixture of different types of sugar, and yes, the sugar content is a lot. So unless you want to be chugging down cups of obesity every morning, stay away from juice cocktails.

Microwaveable Rice

Microwaveable rice was supposed to be the perfect solution to those late nights you have to spend at the office or stay up working late. However, we now know that this food isn’t really the “savior” we expected it to be. Consuming one bag of microwaveable rice usually means that you’ve just taken in over 2000 mg of salt at once.

Corn Syrup

If you check the label of your proof products and you see high-fructose corn syrup or HFCS among the ingredients, you should immediately mark that product as one to not get the next time you go to the store.

Companies prefer to use HFCS because it’s a lot cheaper than sugar, and it helps them cut down on production costs. However, HFCS has also been known to cause liver damage and diabetes when taken in excess.

Fried Foods

America loves deep-fried foods, and chances are if you deep-fry anything, people will buy it. There’s just something special about fried food that makes it so inviting. We might not be able to say what exactly makes people love fried food, but what we can tell you for sure is it can cause obesity and cardiovascular problems.

Snacks with Artificial Sweeteners

Have you ever had people try to get you to switch from a product containing sugar to one containing artificial sweetener because “it’s healthier?” Well, that’s not true! Most of these artificial sweeteners are even more dangerous or damaging than sugar itself. For example, saccharine alters gut bacteria balance, and this can lead to obesity or even cancer.

Trans Fat

Most foods that Americans consume, like microwave popcorn, margarine, and frozen food, are actually high in trans fat. Trans fat raises LDL cholesterol levels in the body and simultaneously lowers HDL cholesterol levels. This increases predisposition to severe conditions like heart attack and stroke.

Breakfast Cereals

No, not all breakfast cereals are bad; however, if your cereal comes powdered with sugar, then you probably want to avoid it. This is because powdery breakfast cereals often contain high calories and empty nutrients.

As such, the only thing they offer you is a feeling of being full, which even vanishes after a short while. However, what you don’t know is that when you inevitably get hungry and go back in for that second helping, you’re just stocking up on sugar that can cause obesity.

Processed Cheese

Processed cheese is a common offering in American stores and restaurants; however, it’s also one of the unhealthiest things you could ever eat. Processed cheese is high in saturated fat and sodium, and it could cause elevated blood pressure levels, leading to cardiovascular events.
