Finding cheap and affordable things can be a good financial bargain for you, but sometimes, penny pinching on some things isn’t worth it. You’ll end up spending more from buying cheap than going all the way. Here are some cheap options you should never go for.
Food
Getting healthy food should never be an option you should think about. When it comes to your body, never go for cheap options, especially if the options are not whole foods and tasty.
Mattress
It is often said that you should never get cheap things for things that come between you and the ground. Get a mattress that makes sleep beautiful and comfortable, your health will thank you for it.
Shoes
The problem with cheap shoes is that you think you’re saving money. But you aren’t. You’ll spend more money fixing it afterwards, and wear it for a shorter time than if you’d spent that money on the right shoe. Plus, you want to save yourself from foot pain and the many discomforts that come with cheap shoes.
Mobile Phones
Cheap mobile phones might feel like a bargain at first, until you are the repair shop every week to fix one problem or the other. Cheap phones give you the fleeting feeling that you got a bargain, but the financial demands later are hectic. And let’s not talk about the unprecedented embarrassment you might deal with when the phone acts up in public.
Car Parts
When you want to get parts for your car, cheap is never an option. Not only is your safety at risk when you buy cheap, you also risk the lives of many other people, from road users to friends and families. Car parts should never be penny-pinched on because a lot is at stake.
Bags
One rule of thumb when it comes to buying cheap is: never buy for cheap the things you use regularly. This rule applies to bags too, whether they’re school bags or office handbags. Bags speak loudly of your personality, so buying cheap bags should not be an option. And when the threads fall off; you sure don’t want to deal with such embarrassment.
Tattoos
If you like your body adorned with colours and art, then you know the importance of quality tattoos. Cheap tattoos sometimes look awful on your skin. Bad art is bad for anyone. And the possibility of the tattoo having other side effects due to poor hygiene from the artist is high. Your body art should be treated with the utmost attention to excellence as possible.
Flimsy Garbage Bags
Firsthand embarrassment isn’t something you want, especially when it comes to dirt. Garbage bags might hold dirt, but if they’re not holding the dirt well, and they fall apart, the sight isn’t friendly.
Sofas
Good, comfortable sofas should not be a luxury; it’s a necessity. Financially, a good sofa will last for years, retaining its quality, sheen and comfort as the years go by. But a cheap one wears off fast, and makes you spend more money that you’d bargained for.
Electronics
Electronics are one of those things getting for cheap, at the detriment of quality, doesn’t work for. Although I know you want to save cost, with cheap electronics, you risk spending more on repairs and replacement, and even being harmed when they get faulty.
Printer Ink
Good printer inks ensure you have quality, clear printouts. Cheap ones reduce the quality of the print, and may cost you opportunities if the printed document is used for business dealings.
Towels
Nobody wants to see strands of cotton on their bodies after they finish using their towel. Although towels aren’t seen as important, people have regretted using cheap towels because it either leaves their skin itchy due to its poor material, or leaves unwanted cotton strands on their hair, or both.
Garage Tools
If you’re the type of person that likes Doing things yourself, then you know how frustrating cheap garage tools can be. They can ruin your DIY projects, and cost y0u more to repair things your substandard tools damaged.
Home Security Systems
Your safety is paramount. So, when going for home security systems, searching for cheap ones might expose you to more danger. You don’t want to pay for your ‘frugality’ with your life and of the lives of the people you love.
Cookware
Buying cheap pots and other cookware will rob you off the joy of enjoying a good meal. Cheap cookware does not allow food to cook well, thereby reducing the cooking and dining experience.
Umbrellas
You don’t want to be drenched on your way to an important meeting because of an umbrella. A cheap and bad umbrella can’t withstand strong wind, thus leaving you soaked under the pelting rain.
Sunscreens
Protecting your skin from UV rays should be non-negotiable. Cheap sunscreens give you the illusion of protection but don’t protect you as much as they should. With cheap and bad sunscreens, you risk skin cancer and other health challenges.
Furniture
Bugs and crawling insects that hide in bad wood aren’t something you want in cheap furniture. And when those cheap furniture start wearing off, you’ll wish you had gotten something better.
Motorcycle Helmets
Safety should always come first. A cheap motorcycle helmet would fail to protect you when you need it the most: in the event of an accident.
Wall Paints
Buying cheap wall paint for your house painting would cost you more money because you’ll buy more buckets to get the type of feel you want. And then there’s the problem of the paint wearing off fast from the wall.
Laptops
I’m not saying you should buy an expensive laptop, but a cheap laptop will slow your productivity and negatively affect your mental health.
Plastic Surgeries
Getting that facelift, if you want it, should not leave you with more medical complications. About $17.1 billion is spent annually in the United States on preventable adverse events in hospitalised patients, largely attributable to post-surgical complications, health care–associated infections, and pressure ulcers.
