You may find it a challenge to have a beard that wows the crowd, yet there is a way that you can spruce up your facial hair and have people compliment you on how amazing you look.

Argan oil isn’t anything new in the cosmetic world. With its natural antioxidant properties and nutrients, it is great for your skin as well as for hair and that is where your beard comes into the picture.

WHAT IS ARGAN OIL

Argan oil comes from Morocco where it is harvested from the Argania spinose tree. The nuts from the tree are cracked open to access the inner kernels which are used to produce the oil.

Because the process requires manual labor rather than machines, it is labour intensive and time-consuming which means that argan oil isn’t cheap.

However, the oil is worth it if you long to have a full, healthy-looking beard without any skin irritations. Argan oil acts as a moisturizer as well as taking care of a variety of skin conditions.

But what about hair, which is where your beard comes in. How does argan oil make your beard look amazing?

BENEFITS OF ARGAN OIL FOR YOUR BEARD

Argan oil is found in shampoos and other hair care products because it was discovered that it makes your locks look healthy and full. The oil eventually found its way into men’s facial hair products to help overcome these common complaints about beards:

  • itchiness
  • not being able to grow a fuller, longer beard
  • dry skin under the beard
  • beard dandruff (aka “beardruff”)
  • acne (which can be caused by ingrown hair as well as bacteria gathering around the hair follicles)
  • brittle hair

Yep, argan oil is incredible for beards and it’s time to tell you why.

NO MORE ITCHING

Do you find yourself always scratching at your face because it’s itchy? Typically the itching is caused by dry skin. Argan oil contains Vitamin E and other nutrients that will keep your skin moisturised and, by giving your skin what it needs under your beard, you will no longer have that itchy feeling!

PATCHY BEARDS

Let’s face it,  patchy beards suck. You want a beard that makes people stop and go “Wow”. Again, the Vitamin E within argan oil can help stimulate the hair follicles on your face so that you can grow a beard that looks incredible.

FULLER, LONGER, BEARDS

Maybe you don’t suffer from patchy beards, but you struggle to grow a thicker, longer beard. The antioxidants within argan oil help by stimulating cell growth, producing healthy hair and minimising acne, blackheads and other nasties that prevent proper beard growth.

REDUCES INFLAMMATION

Hair loss can be the result of inflammation and a beard that looks uneven isn’t something to behold. Argan oil contains oleic acid which manages water loss in your hair and linoleic acid that stimulates hair growth. Both of these help in reducing inflammation.

BEARD DANDRUFF

Dandruff can be embarrassing. Flakes of skin sitting on your collar and when it comes to beards, beardruff can be a social nightmare. The problem is caused by your skin becoming dry and flaky. As we mentioned, argan oil is a great natural moisturizer kiss goodbye to social awkwardness!

BRITTLE HAIR

A scraggly beard can be the result of your hair being dry and brittle. Argan oil provides your hair cells with the nutrients that they need so that your hair is soft which means a great looking beard.

NO MORE SPLIT ENDS

In the same boat as brittle hair is the problem with split ends which makes your beard look tatty. The vitamins and nutrients within argan oil will provide your beard with the TLC that it has been lacking so that it shines and looks fantastic.

So now you know how argan oil is a must-have if you desire to have a beard that is a showstopper. But how do you use the oil?

HOW TO USE ARGAN OIL

There are several ways that you can use this oil to keep your beard looking healthy: you can shampoo with it, use it as a conditioner or simply massage it onto your face.

SHAMPOOING

Add a couple of drops of argan oil into the shampoo in your hand, rub your hands together to mix and then massage it into your beard as normal. After that, rinse out the shampoo.

CONDITIONING

To maintain a healthy-looking beard use argan oil as a conditioner. Place a few drops of it into your hand and massage it through your beard, making sure that it gets onto your skin as well. Do this at least once a week to keep your beard looking its best.

STYLING

Argan oil can make styling your beard so much easier thanks to the nutrients and antioxidants that repair and strengthen damaged hair. If you want a beard that is easy to manage and has a gorgeous shine to it here is how:

  1. Prepare your face: Use a deep cleaning facial scrub to remove any dead skin from your face and cleanse the pores under your beard. Now you have a great base on which to apply your oil.
  2. Get a hot towel: You want to take full advantage of the argan oil and, by giving your face a good wipe over with a hot towel, you cause the pores of your skin to expand. That means you can absorb the oil more easily.
  3. Remove unwanted hairs: Grab a brush or comb and run it through your beard. This will take out dead or loose hairs as well as removing old skin that is trapped within your whiskers.
  4. Oil up: Get your argan oil and apply several drops (or a  few more of you are sporting a longer, thicker beard) into your had and then massage it in. If you feel like you need to add more oil, do so but only in small amounts as too much can make your beard look greasy.
  5. Style: Allow your creativity to flow by styling your beard however you like.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN GETTING ARGAN OIL

Now you know how argan oil helps you grow an awesome beard but what should you consider when buying argan oil?

Look for these before handing over your cash.

THE OIL IS COLD-PRESSED

Argan oil is extracted from the kernels by pressing them. There are two ways that this can be done: cold-pressing and heat-pressing.

The best way is cold-pressing as this decreases the oxidation of the oil which occurs through the heat of any machinery used to separate the oil from the kernels.

MAKE SURE THERE ARE ‘NO ADDED EXTRAS’

Manufacturers like to get the highest return for their investment and when it comes to argan oil it’s no different.

Some manufacturers will use solvents to cause the kernels to produce as much oil as possible and that means your pure argan oil isn’t pure any more. It has been tainted with solvents, typically hexane which can cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, as well as affecting your lungs and intestines.

THE BOTTLE

Light isn’t argan oil’s friend and clear bottles expose the oil to the UV radiation of the sun. The result is that the oil oxidizes and goes bad which means it has become useless.

Bottles that are dark in color and light-resistant are the best ones to go for. Also, store the oil in a place where there is no natural light.

HOW IT LOOKS AND FEELS

Good quality argan oil should be a light golden color. Also, it should be smooth and not feel like it has been watered down.

CLOUDINESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE

Argan oil can be processed many times to refine it, yet each time it is processed there is the possibility of contamination through solvents and chemicals entering through the refinements due to machinery trying to make the oil “pure”.

Quality argan oil appears cloudy at the bottom of the bottle as this is sediment that is still within the oil because it hasn’t been overly processed.

THINGS TO ARE AWARE OF BEFORE USING ARGAN OIL

Argan is a great natural product that will do wonders to help you have an awesome beard. However, there are some things that you need to be aware of from a health point of view.

If you are allergic to nuts you could have a reaction when using argan oil (after all it is extracted from a nut). Place a small portion of the oil on a small patch of skin and see if it causes a problem.

Read the label of the ingredients on the bottle of the oil as it may contain things that could be harmful to you and which could cause side effects. Highly diluted argan oil is something that you need to pay extra attention to because the manufacturers have used other oils or products that can cause a reaction.

If you are unsure about whether you can use argan oil please seek medical advice from your doctor.

Though side effects and reactions are rare, it pays to be safe. Make sure you only get pure argan oil.

One final thing; Enjoy your amazing, full, healthy beard!
