We all love a good film, whether it’s a comedy, romance, action, horror, or another type. Yet, when we have invested around an hour and a half of our time watching the movie, we want an ending that makes us feel satisfied. However, some films didn’t get the ending right. As a result, viewers are left feeling let down and regretting wasting a portion of their life watching a potentially great film screw up the ending.
To save time, here are ten films that didn’t get the ending right.
Interstellar (2014)
This was epic sci-fi with big names such as Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. As the earth becomes increasingly uninhabitable, many astronauts travel through space looking for a new place to call home. They enter a wormhole, and that’s when things start to fall apart regarding the ending. Any logical science is left dangling at the edge of the hole.
(500) Days Of Summer (2009)
The film starts with Tom looking for love. As with most guys, he gets excited when any attractive girl pays attention to him. Eventually, he falls in love, then the audience is excited as the relationship grows, then disintegrates. The film ends as it begins, with Tom alone and sad with the situation having to replay itself repeatedly like some sadistic romantic Groundhog Day.
The Happening (2008)
Plants that use pheromones to kill and cause human extinction? What could go wrong? Oh… the ending when survivors dare to venture outside, which, for some inexplicable reason, stops the flora-based destruction of humanity.
Changeling (2008)
Based on a true story in which a mother tries to find her kidnapped son. She battles against a corrupt and incompetent police force as she attempts to get information. The audience is hoping for answers…which never come. The son is missing, and you will never know what happened.
Birdman (2014)
This film is a mix of different genres. That could be a mistake to some, but they would be wrong. It’s deliberate and can be a reflection of the mental state of the protagonist. Ultimately, the protagonist’s daughter looks up at the sky, leaving the audience wondering about the scene’s meaning.
Zodiac (2007)
This is a great film, even though it covers a topic that has inspired other movies (Dirty Harry). However, like the actual case of the Zodiac, this movie still needs to be resolved.
The Shining (1980)
A classic horror film with a bizarre ending. After Jack Torrance freezes to death in the snow, we see him in a photo of a party that occurred in 1920, before the film’s events. The audience is left wondering what that was all about.
Mother! (2017)
A couple with issues find it hard to bond with the imminent birth of their first child. The husband, who gets little attention from his wife, tries to resolve his problem by inviting people to his home. These people give him all the attention he craves. Yet the movie ends without tying many pieces of the plot together, leaving the audience confused.
Enemy (2013)
This film revolves around two men who look identical. After the death of one of the men, the other tries to seduce his wife. He walks into the bathroom, and she has become a spider. Weird.
The Birds (1963)
Birds suddenly start to attack people. This is one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best films, but the ending? We are left without answers as to what made the birds go crazy and do Melanie, whose face was half pecked off, live (because we see a group of people piling into a car and driving away at the end).
