16 Movies from 1991 We Regret Watching

Daniel Clarke

In 1991, the silver screen showcased a wild mix of genres, from quirky comedies to heart-pounding thrillers. Some became instant classics, while others faded into obscurity. Let’s time-travel back to ’91, exploring 16 unforgettable films that shaped the era, each with its unique story, charm, and impact on the cinematic landscape.

1. The Super

“The Super” is a total letdown for movie buffs. It’s like they threw plot, character development, and suspense out the window. The acting is awful,  making you wonder how it got greenlit. Even the special effects are laughable, resembling a high school project. Save your time and skip this one – it’s a prime example of how not to make a movie.

2. Return to Blue Lagoon

This is a sequel that should’ve never happened. It’s a cringe-fest from start to finish. The plot is a recycle of the first movie in which two teenagers are stranded on a desert island. It tries to capture the magic of the original but fails miserably. “The high points: there aren’t any” one reviewer says. Save your sanity and avoid this cinematic disaster at all costs.

3. Rover Dangerfield

The animation in “Rover Dangerfield” is painfully dated, making it look like something your grandpa would’ve watched. The story is as shallow as a puddle, revolving around a wisecracking dog in Las Vegas – yawn! The jokes fall flat, and the voice acting, led by Rodney Dangerfield, can’t save this canine catastrophe.

4. Cool as Ice

“Cool as Ice” is the definition of cringe. Vanilla Ice’s attempt at acting is laughable – he’s about as cool as a melted ice cube. The attempts at romance are awkward. If you want to know how big Vanilla’s ego is, watch this. Spoiler alert: his ego is bigger than an iceberg.

5. Bingo

“Bingo” is a dog of a movie. The plot is beyond predictable, and the humor is stale. As for redeeming features, there is only one: the dog actor, and even he can’t save this movie from being a mess. It’s a reminder that not every idea should make it to the big screen. One dog lover saw this film and said they “walked out after 39 minutes and got our money back.”

6. Problem Child 2

The first film was terrible and then they made a sequel. That should be enough to entice some groans. It’s a comedy that just isn’t funny. The gags are repetitive and juvenile, leaving you cringing more than chuckling. This time Junior finds that there’s a kid worse than him and it’s a girl! The plot is a rehash of the first film. “It still teaches kids that it’s O.K. to be bad. It’s impossible for me to recommend this movie to anyone” an online critic says.

7. Drop Dead Fred

This is like a bad acid trip mixed with slapstick humor that falls flat. The plot is all over the place, and the characters are more annoying than endearing. Fred, the imaginary friend, is more of a nuisance than a fun companion. It’s a jumbled attempt at blending fantasy and comedy that leaves you scratching your head. Save yourself the headache and skip this one – it’s a bizarre and forgettable ride.

8. The Marrying Man

The plot is a tangled and confusing mess, while the characters are shallow. Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger’s chemistry is absent, making their love story hard to root for. The attempts at humor and romance fall flat, and you’re left wondering why you wasted your time.

9. Livin’ Large

“Livin’ Large” is a movie that’s larger than life in all the wrong ways. It’s like a bad sitcom on steroids. The humor is forced, the characters are cardboard cutouts, and the plot is as clichéd as they come. It tries way too hard to be funny and socially relevant, but it falls flat on its face. As one viewer points out “‘Livin’ Large tries to tell blacks, in a nutshell, that having too much success, being too refined in speech, dress, education, and manner, makes you white.” An awful message to get across to the audience.

10. Mannequin 2: On The Move

The first installment was as lifeless as a store dummy, then they made a sequel! “Mannequin 2: On The Move” should’ve stayed put. It’s a sequel that takes the first movie’s charm and tosses it out the window. The plot is a train wreck, making you wonder why they bothered. The humor is as stale as last season’s fashion, and the characters lack depth. Even the romantic chemistry is missing, leaving you cold.

11. Suburban Commando

Hulk Hogan’s attempt at being a space-faring hero falls flatter than a deflated tire. The humor is as awkward as his one-liners, and the special effects are laughably bad. The plot is so thin it’s practically transparent, and the supporting characters are forgettable. It’s a campy mess that’s more likely to make you groan than cheer. One reviewer suggests that this is “One of the worst movies of all time”. You have been warned!

12. Curly Sue

“Curly Sue” is a cringe-worthy ‘90s flick that’s more likely to give you a headache than warm your heart. The story is overly mushy and the characters are one-dimensional at best. The attempt at cuteness with the little girl, played by Alisan Porter, feels forced. It’s like a syrupy sweet overdose with a side of cheesy humor.

13. Life Stinks

Life stinks and so does this movie! It’s a comedy that couldn’t be farther from hilarious. It’s a painfully unfunny attempt at social commentary. The humor is about as subtle as a sledgehammer, and the characters are caricatures, not people you can relate to. Mel Brooks, usually a comedic genius, falls flat in this one. “It was so terribly stupid and unfunny that I couldn’t sit through it – though I tried” an online reviewer confessed.

14. Lucky Luke

“Lucky Luke” is an unfortunate misfire. This Western comedy feels more like a tumbleweed rolling through the desert than a Wild West adventure. The jokes are dry and the characters lack the charm of the classic comic series. The slapstick humor misses the mark, and the plot’s predictable It’s a disappointing adaptation.

15. Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man

“Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man” is a cinematic letdown for anyone hoping for a wild ride. The story is aimless and the characters are like cartoon versions of bikers. Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson’s chemistry isn’t enough to save this one from crashing and burning. The action sequences feel forced, and the attempt at coolness falls flat.

16. Hudson Hawk

“Hudson Hawk” is a trainwreck of a movie that tries way too hard to be funny and fails miserably. Bruce Willis, usually a charmer, is more like a cringe-worthy clown here. The plot is a convoluted mess involving art heists and singing safecrackers, and the jokes are so forced they might as well be on life support. It’s a head-scratcher of a film that’ll leave you wondering what you just watched.
